Presentation | Driving Next-Generation Optical Interconnects Through a Vertically Integrated Platform

On September 9th, 2026 from 14:50 to 15:00 (local time), Mr. Weiyi Gu, President of the Laser Source and Applications BU at Focuslight, will be participating in the EPIC TechWatch session during the 27th China International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE 2026) held in Shenzhen, China, where he will deliver a technical talk titled “Driving Next-Generation Optical Interconnects Through a Vertically Integrated Platform from Components to Precision Assembly”.

Abstract

As AI infrastructure, data centers, and high-speed optical networks continue to scale, the optical interconnect industry is entering a new era of higher integration and larger-scale deployment. While the industry continues to demand increasingly stringent product performance, it is also placing greater emphasis on co-innovation across materials, photonics components, precision assembly, and manufacturing automation.

This presentation will discuss Focuslight’s integrated photonics manufacturing capabilities for optical communication applications, highlighting key technology platforms that support the development and production of next-generation optical interconnects. Some real-world examples include advanced submount materials, micro-optical components, engineered V-Groove arrays, Chip-on-Submount (COS) packaging, as well as automation and smart inspection solutions for high-volume manufacturing.

Combined with process development services and a global manufacturing footprint, these capabilities enable faster product introduction, improved yield and consistency, and more scalable deployment of next-generation optical interconnect technologies.

Weiyi Gu, President of the Laser Source and Applications Business Unit at Focuslight. Mr. Weiyi Gu holds a Master’s degree in Engineering and has 13 years of experience in photonics R&D and product management. He has extensive experience in developing and delivering system-level application solutions for pan-semiconductor and industrial applications. Throughout his career, he has led the development and lifecycle management of multiple core system products, supporting diverse laser application scenarios.
