Position objective

Project manager role to lead multi-site and multi-cultural core teams of technical members in new product/technology development from R&D to demonstration of technology building block, prototyping or mass production. Responsible for project planning and implementation; monitoring quality, cost and delivery, to meet or exceed customer requirements and achieve project objectives. End goal is to realize business case as approved by Sponsor & Project Review Board. Frequently coordinates engineering samples availability & on-time delivery between internal/external customers and R&D operations.

Education & Qualification 

• BS/MS degree in engineering or a related discipline and/or have demonstrated. increasing levels of technical management responsibilities.
• Recommended PMI/PM certification, Agile, Scrum or equivalent.

Experience

• 2-3 years of professional project management experience in R&D environment. Proven track record as Project Manager with a strong knowledge of APQP/NPI development process, project management skillset including risk management, customer engagement, systems and tools.
• Transfer from technical or functional role that has successfully executed work packages, sample on time delivery and demonstrated technical leadership for teams in matrix organization.
• Successful implementation track record on 1- 2 complex projects with moderate to high commercial cost and risk.
• Candidates need to have demonstrated ability to lead technical taskforces and resolve complex technical issues.
• Some experience in development and technology transfers till product release. As well as performance improvement / problem solving is required.

Functional competencies

• Working experience with R&D is required. High Volume Manufacturing (HVM) is good to have. Sensitivity to development lead time / sample delivery lead time.
• Experience with photonics, optics or opto-semiconductors and related manufacturing processes are added advantage for role.

• Administer, manage and maintain network, servers and storage

In more detail the Photonics System Engineer/Optical Designer should be

1. Part of the R&D projects on automotive, medtech, illumination and data/telecom optics
2. Designing micro-optical components and sub-systems

Your tasks

Product Engineering & Development

• Support of product development planning, setting of technical objectives and milestones, according to the technical and business requirements.
• Development project execution – independently executes or supports advanced product developments with:

1. Product definition according to the company existing capabilities or product platforms.
2. Detailed feasibility assessment and product design in close collaboration with the production/ manufacturing engineering team.
3. Participation in technical communication with customers when necessary.
4. Part design (technical drawing) and tooling design (photomask design).
5. Product validation activities and reporting.

7. Point of contact during pilot production and during industrialization.
