Cutting-Edge Applications of Precision Optical Components in Next-Generation Optical Communications
Abstract: In the field of next-generation optical communications, Focuslight Technologies employs photolithography and reactive ion etching (RIE) techniques to fabricate micro-nano optical components on silicon or fused silica substrates. These components are utilized in optical communication modules and silicon photonics modules, such as Transmitter Optical Sub-Assemblies (TOSA), Receiver Optical Sub-Assemblies (ROSA), Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC), and Co-Packaged Optics (CPO). They play a crucial role in achieving efficient collimation, focusing, and fiber coupling of laser sources, contributing to miniaturization and enhanced efficiency.

Speaker:

Si Chen, Product Line Manager at Focuslight’s Laser Optics Business Unit. She holds a master's degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University and is now taking care of Focuslight’s single lenses and 1D lens arrays. These products are primarily used for collimation, coupling, and focusing of light in diverse application areas such as optical communication, fiber lasers, as well as blue laser engraving, pan-semiconductor processing, and machine vision.

Unlocking the Potential of Wafer-Level Technology for Emerging Applications
Abstract: Wafer Level Optics (WLO) technology leverages semiconductor precision to enable high-volume, highly accurate replication of optical components on glass wafers. These wafers can be diced into individual components, while Wafer Level Stacking (WLS) further enhances integration by stacking multiple lens wafers with micron-level precision, incorporating apertures, coatings, and spectral filters. This ensures miniaturization, high precision, and scalability for mass production.
Building on WLS, Wafer Level Integration (WLI) seamlessly incorporates chip-scale packaged (CSP) sensors into ultra-thin, optically sealed modules, enhancing design flexibility, space efficiency, and reliability.
These advancements enable high-performance optical components for AR/VR, medical imaging, and industrial applications.

Speaker:

Lichen Sun, Product Line Manager of Global Photonics Foundry at Focuslight. He has been an R&D engineer and product line manager for high-power diode laser at Focuslight over 7 years. In 2024, following Focuslight's acquisition of ams OSRAM's Optical Component Assets, Lichen transitioned into his role as the Product Line Manager of the Global Photonics Foundry.

Solid-state Laser Annealing for LTPS
Abstract: THEIA is a new product family of solid-state lasers developed recently by Thales. THEIA use diode-pumping technology to provide a unique performance, robustness and reliability. THEIA lasers can provide nanosecond laser pulses at 3 different wavelengths, 1064 nm, 532 nm and 355 nm. They have been designed to match the requirements of high-volume manufacturing in semiconductor and flat panel display industries.
In display panel manufacturing, low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) annealing is one of the core processes. Currently, excimer laser-based annealing (ELA) systems dominate the market, but their maintenance costs are high. Through years of collaboration, Focuslight and Thales have developed a high-energy UV solid-state laser annealing system, offering an innovative technological solution for LTPS annealing. This system significantly reduces maintenance costs and improves operational efficiency.
