February 2020 – During Photonics West 2020, Dr. Victor Liu, President and CEO of Focuslight Technologies Inc. was interviewed by Laser Focus World (www.laserfocusworld.com), a well-known news agency in the laser and photoelectronic industry. Taking the automotive LiDAR transmitter as an example, Dr. Liu introduced Focuslight’s R&D and production capacity as well as current businesses.
Video duration: about 2.5 minutes
At present, Focuslight has four business units: Diode Laser BU, Laser Optics BU, Automotive BU and UV Line BU, providing customers with products and services covering “photon generation”, “photon control” and “photon technology application solutions”.
For LiDAR transmitters, Focuslight is able to provide light sources, optical components, as well as solutions.
Light Source
Relying on long-term accumulation of diode laser packaging technology, Focuslight offers automotive-grade design and packaging of various laser light sources such as PLD, laser bar, VCSEL, and solid-state laser for LiDAR applications.
Optical Components
Focuslight's new FAC3000 works with nanostack PLD chips. With a FW1/e² collimation angle around 5mrad and a working distance around 2mm, the integrated operation with SMT packaged nanostack PLD chips is easy and convenient.
Focuslight's wide-angle diffusers are perfect partners for various types of light sources such as collimated light sources, diverged light sources, and light source arrays. The diffusers are able to diffuse the laser beam in one direction so that the exit angle of the beam can be more than 100 degrees, max. 150 degrees. When used in combination with a second diffuser, the beam is also diffused at an angle in the other direction, thereby shaping the beam into a uniform rectangular field of view, such as 120 ° x 25 °.
Photon Application Solutions
LiDAR-Tx F AL01, a Flash LiDAR product developed and produced by Focuslight, is able to release 1064nm laser pulses with 1.5mJ@3ns energy, as long as it’s connected to a power source. The built-in 2x wide-angle diffusers can form a field angle of 125 ° x 25 ° or 60 ° x 45 ° or flexible angles according to customer’s needs.
Focuslight also offers a 905nm LiDAR linear light source transmitter module. This module integrates a 905nm laser, a PCB driver and beam shaping optics. The output power is 400W or 800W, the pulse width about 5ns, and the pulse frequency about 100kHz. The module is able to release a line beam with fast axis divergence angle<0.1 ° and slow axis divergence angle around 30 °. Customization of the module according to customer needs is also possible in order to meet different requirements on pulse width, frequency, divergence angle, and so on.
At the end of the interview, Dr. Victor Liu said, "The philosophy of Focuslight is to do what we do best and to commit to customers."
