Job Responsibilities

The micro-optics designer is responsible for the development, simulation, and optimization of micro-optical components and systems used in high-precision optical applications such as sensor technology, imaging, telecommunications, and lithography. The aim of the position is to design innovative micro-optical solutions that combine technical performance, manufacturability, and cost optimization.

  1. Development and design of micro-optical components (e.g., microlens arrays, diffractive optics, etc.).
  2. Performing optical simulations (e.g., with Zemax, LightTools, COMSOL, Lumerical, or other FDTD/ray tracing tools).
  3. Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure the manufacturability of the designed components.
  4. Define and evaluate design tolerances.
  5. Perform feasibility studies, prototype development, and design reviews.
  6. Support the integration of micro-optical components into complex optical systems.
  7. Document and present design results internally and to customers.
  8. Analyzing technical requirements and translating them into optical design specifications.
  9. Selecting suitable materials and technologies for the implementation of micro-optical structures.
  10. Supporting production in the transfer from prototype to series production.
  11. Performing tests and measurements to validate optical performance.
  12. Interdisciplinary collaboration with optics, electronics, and software developers.

Qualifications & Requirements

  1. Experience in the manufacture of optical components.
  2. Good knowledge of simulation and design of micro-optics using appropriate software.
  3. Experience with optical assemblies and components such as cameras, laser diodes, excimer lasers, etc..
  4. Experience in recording and evaluating measurement data.
  5. Good written and spoken English.
  6. Confident use of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.).
  7. Goal-oriented and structured approach to work as well as strong analytical skills.
  8. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is desirable.
  9. Programming skills in e.g. Matlab, Python, etc..
  10. Degree in a technical field related to optics or comparable training.
